    Bonnet latch

I sent my car in for a service a month or so ago and they snapped the handle in the foot well to open the bonnet. Now it takes two people to open the bonnet, one has to push down on the bonnet and the other pull the handle. What is my best and cheapest option to fix this annoying problem. It unsafe as i would need two people now just to get the Jack to do the simple task of changing a tyre.

    Cheers! James.

I had the same thing and found the best thing was buy a new one and fit it. It didn't cost much and time to fit was around an hour.

I was also able to reroute it so opening was so much easier.

Happened in my old D1, just the handle broke, had to replace the whole lot. Got my local guy to do it in Ferntree Gully, before I sold it, cost $66 fitted. 1/2 hr to fit. Probably could have done it myself but I would have broken something else, hurt my hand, kicked the guard in & taken me 3 hours to do & then been up for more money

The bonnet on my D1 was very stiff to release - which hadn't worried me too much until it popped up onto the safety latch at 100k on the highway.
Turned out to be the latch mechanism itself - the grease was all dried up and sticking so that it wasn't actually latching down positively.

I removed the latch mechanism, cleaned and regreased and its now very easy to release and latches properly.

When you replace the cable I'd recommend you check the latch as well. Might save a stain on the drivers seat

Don't think you can get the handle without the cable though
