I have only ever done it once (not in a disco though) and never again. There is a reason why mechanics charge so much for this job, but as far as I am concerned I will pay to get it done.

    heater core

Geezzas rebuilding the car would be quicker!
It looks like it been parked at the wreckers for a few years.

I was quoted nearly 2000 to do my heater core and pipes as they rust away aswell.

It is not necessary to dismantle the complete dashboard!
You may take out the heater by sliding it to the drivers side, from the heater box.
In order to do this You have to free access by taking out both pipes attached to the core.
The problem is, that both heat insulated alu pipes are fixed by a screw that is fixed from inside from the car.
So you have to drill this screw.
The core-pipe connections are sure, but You have to look for correct alignement. If You connect both tubes with tension, may be You can suffer further leaks. So first connect the pipes and then fix them at the box!

You can look at detailed photographs from this job in landroverclub.com.ar :: Ver tema - Disco1- Desarme de tablero, cambio de calefactor (GabrielC)
Some fotos are missing thanks to imageshack

    Regards
