Steering wheel cover for D1 (with pics)

    Hi guys

Following on from the steering wheel cover thread.....

I received my steering wheel cover the other week only to find once I stitched it on it didn't fit was just over an inch to much excess left at the end..

I contacted the guy from ebay explaining the situation, to which he sorted ASAP... and sent me out a new cover free of charge!

So I put the new cover on and although a little disapointed that the cover STILL didn't fit as tight as I would of liked it...I think its ok and will be better than having to put up with the steering wheel falling apart in my hands

It was fairly easy to stitch on although getting it around the spokes can be alittle testing took just over an hour to fit!

I have attached a couple of pics and as you can see by the fitted pics there is still a bit of bag on the left side of the steering wheel...you cant feel it with the hands on the wheel its just asthetics for me, I like things to be perfect

    oh well.

Pics of the steering wheel and the sun damage occuring to the top

Pic of the cover fitted.....now the disco looks like a sydney taxi

It looks tight enough around the circumference but too loose on the inside, maybe as though it was meant for a fatter wheel than this one. Theres no chance you've got it back to front I 'spose ?

Looks pretty good to me. Maybe the heat in the closed car on a sunny day will change things one way or the other.
Careful when you sit down next though.

    its symetrical.......

yeah I know it looks like that a bit....the measurement of the steering wheel is 15" the grip 4.7" the one they gave me was 15 3/8" x 4 3/4"..
So I'm guessing that is the closest size they had the steering wheel size being slightly bigger as caused that bit of bagging. problem is as well the leather is really really soft and although it says put it on the tighter the better! because I have pulled it tight it is showing up the bagging more and possibly stretched along with it.

I suppose I will just have to see how it goes if it annoys me I will just pull it off absorb the 70 bux and buy another steering wheel. for the moment it will do

When I bought the Silver Bullett[series 1 disco] there was a sheepskin steering wheel cover in the back. It fitted so it stays on.

I hate sheepskin covers I couldn't stand a cover that made the steering wheel feel masive..
I know that this one looks really fat but its actually not to put your hands on the wheel.....I guess that could be the same as other covers like sheepskin though.

I often see women driving with great big grey fluffy covers on there wheels and I cant understand how they can even see out the windscreen they are so fluffy

I wondered that also. There was one pictured here a couple of weeks back (?) that was stitched around the perimeter & that looked tighter.

    Dunno really.

Give it a Brazillian & you'll have a leather steering wheel cover.

that was on a series vehicle and made by a different company..

drivinf with this today...it feels really good to drive with, I just dont like the bagginess look about it so who knows how long I will have it on

Maybe I might take it off and get a friend to tak out a bit of leather in the circumfrence and stitch it back up that will certainly tighten it up
