Thread: Suspension Lift with Polyairs?

Hi Shaker,
have got my Coil-Rite air-bags from the states, but have not fitted for this reason will let you know once I have checked out dimensions and looked at what is required have not had times or its been to wet to fit.
Was advised should not need them but I am no 100% on this and wont to be.
My Disco is to high for my shed so all is done outside in weather.

It depends what you want, the Polyairs to be a spring medium all the time, or as an assist when loaded. I have an RRC with LRA "Orange" 180Lb 17 inch rear springs which give 2 inch lift. I have a LRA 140L tank.

I fitted the spacers at first and the car rose 10MM with the bags at 4PSI.

I pulled the spacers and the bags just touch or maybe have 5MM or so clearance at 4PSI. This clearance reduces if more air is put in.

IMHO The unladen ride is better and the ride height unaffected without the spacers.

I have also driven 20KK or so with the bags towing my Campomatic and the bags are faultless.

Both the polyair and coilrite bags are for standard height and require appropriate spacers to suit lifted suspension.

The polyair and coilrite spacers are interchangeable with the other makers bags.

Edit: the spacers are moulded from hard rubber.

not to hijack your thread, but im going to be having a fridge and draws which will be a lot of extra weight in the boot am i better with firmer spring when i lift it or airbags

Depends whether you will have the draws in the car all the time or not. If it's mostly town car you might want softer rate springs and use the air bags to supplement and help carry the weight. If its a dedicated toured you might want the heavier springs. But then again I run the heaviest duty ARB springs and air bags as on really long trips like the Simpson I have needed the extra carrying capacity. I run around with the disco always setupand just deflate the airbags.

I got my firestone bags which i think are better value from truckspring.com in the States. I got 2 inch rubber spacers here from polyair. Works well and at least $200 cheaper than buying polyairs here. You will need the spacers if you have a lift otherwise the bag will get compressed too much and rupture.

its a daily driver often towing a trailer to work most days than on the weekends its the family tourer the draws will alwys be in there as is the fridge for now we camp only with the disco but thinking about a camper

When you order your bags, specify that you have a 2" lift and they will supply you with air bags to suit

That's what I did with my old car.
