I think I spoke too soon- Disco V8 on strike

I was just praising the Disco to a colleague the other day- its only had an alternator & battery in 5 years ownership..
Well last night it refused to start & I could smell petrol so I left it till this morning- still no start, it spins over OK and minor fire up on one cyl occasionally. We called our mobile mechanic & he took out the plugs, cleaned them up, checked the fuel pump and said it was an "EFI issue" so its gone to the autolecs.
Its a 96 V8, anybody want to have a stab at what its gunna cost?????

May be just your coil decided to take a long holiday.... hence no spark or the ignition amp module for the coil.

    There was a spark...
Well, $302 later I can say that it was the earth connection to the ECU .
The auto elecs said it was behind the engine & hard to access. Obviously the diagnostics picked the fault straight off.

They used to be Autlec now trading as Alcotek. We have'nt had to use a spaky for years & our home mechanic recommended them as they have the diagnostics & he is happy using them. Our mechanic is pretty good & honest - he's a neighbour, he spent over an hour, cleaned the plugs etc & because he could'nt get it going, totally refused any payment.
Alcotek install those breath test units that immobilize the vehicle.

I would have guessed that as you said that you could smell petrol that maybe the fuel pressure regulator on the fuel log at the rear of the plenum, not unusual, Regards Frank.
