Yeah i was under the impression it was a 89L tank and 9L reserve when the warning came on.

But today i filled after driving 40K with the light on, and it took 85L

I have a book called "The Land Rover Experience", it was published by Land Rover in 1993, so refers to the pre-update D1 model I guess.

    It states 88.6L fuel tank.

    81.7L usable fuel.

    12L approx low fuel warning.

However my 98 D1 car manual states as B92 8NW says: 9L low fuel warning.

So maybe they changed it in the update.

might be that the tank holds 89 litres but then you can still get a few litres more into the filler tube.

Yeap i would say thats whats happening! , i always try to fill up as MUCH as possible as i know next time it would only be more expensive. And i always drive it down till the light comes on. I hate filling up so i make sure i do it as least as possible

My 200tdi Disco will (and has) gone over 200kms with fuel light on. We tried it out because it was coming on after 550-600kms but using ~10L/100kms and I knew it had an 89L tank. When we figured we'd pushed it enough we pulled over and it coughed and spluttered a bit, probably because the fuel was spilling forward of the take-up when I was slowing down. Topped it up with the jerry and kept cruising...
