I'll still have to say that sounds perfectly normal and that what you're describing is just worded better than what I was trying to say. The D2 has a much better ABS than the D1.

Great thing to have on asphalt roads, saved my skin a couple of times. It can be a real pain the arse on slippery gravel roads, you know the gravel that feels like ball bearings. Some time skidding to a halt can be faster. I have had to bail out on a corner once because it was to slippery, the ABS cut in and the wheels would not stop turning or allow me to skid. Of course I could have just slowed down which would have been just as effective.
When going down hill use it as a hill descent control, after all that's all the D2 does, it utilizes the ABS in reverse.
I do note that just recently my ABS sometimes has been kicking in when it should not be or has no need to. I suspect a sensor is on the way out and this is he 1st job on the mechanics list next service.

OK girls and guys mine did it this morning slowing to come out of my street (was only doing about 40K's and just braked slowly) at a T junction with a 100k/hr main road pulled the hand brake on to stop..seems same problem that Dullbird has had....so is it just a sensor then? that needs to be replaced expensive

mine still does it but did it a lot less when the sensor was changed....in saying that when I had a wheel sensor problem my airbag light stayed illuminated. the wheel sensor was just over 400 bux

i doubt it is your wheel sensor....mine can come around with funny road surfaces especially if slowing down quick..(not quick enough to actually put on the ABS) apparently the D1's are renowned for sensitive abs. also one thing to check is I believe they had a recall on some ABS units and (although you will have to search to be sure) if you have i think it was Allan key heads non the top then I think it may of had the mod done.

Dont ask me what the mod was I can't remember...

Mine sometimers does it too for no apparent reason, in non-extreme conditions. Brakes appear otherwise OK and it still pulls up alright but the pedal vibration is a bit offputting.

No I can assure you that its not that it never has been in my case...as its happened to me on slow stuff off road, slow pulling into drive ways on slight down hill gradients....

In fact when changing my brake pads etc and taking the car out for a test drive I have never been able to do an emergancy stop which has infact brought on my abs...as I'm not harn enough on the brakes

Mine does it on gravel and ice. Scared the crap out of me the first time, car full of crew and kit with an overloaded trailer going down a loose gravel track touched the brakes to stop and ABS kicked in and we kept going straight towards the drop luckily stopping in time. But I can also lock up a wheel on tarmac when braking in anger. Go figure!

No lewy I was only doing around 40k/hr as my street is not long enough to get into 4th let alone 5th gear
