Talking Ordinary paintwork on my bonnet

It's metallic green its from 1994 and it appears to be errr peeling.

I can actually scratch the paint off the bonnet with my fingernail. Big white splotches etc.

Common problem I am assuming, but does anyone know of an easy solution?

I was thinking of big thick white stick on racing stripes, grrr

Yup, common problem. I have faded paint on bonet too, and like others have done here, the best fix is the Camel black. Dullbird has done it on the green and it looks schmick. I will do this also in summer.

    I have the same/similar colour '95ES.

I have a section "peeling" and a few spots oxidizing however I feel it just adds a bit of character and blends with the dents and scratches that a real 4 x 4 should have. You do all have dents and scratches don't you? (LOL).

One solution I am thinking of is to "wet rub" the whole bonnet to cut through the clear lacquer and leave the whole bonnet with a flat or semi gloss finish and tell everyone it is the latest safety procedure to avoid glare.
If it gets really bad I may do a "blackout" but would need to do the whole bonnet as my "peeling" and oxidization is right on the edges of the bonnet.

yes so old mate the panel beater told me it's due to being parked in the sun too much! Fancy someone going and doing that, oh the horror!

Only option is to rip it all off and start again apparently. Being a land rover the missus said I may have to take the radiator out first to do that.

I might go with the sticker option, i like easy.

I would just paint it......took me a couple of hours and I have NEVER done it before...

That includes masking sanding and painting.

for what it cost me in paint and thinners may possibly cost more for a sticker

My Willow green is going on the bonnet and on roof above the front seats, the roof rack seems to have slowed down the rest of the peeling.
I had a panel shop quote me approx $500 for bonnet and about a $1000 for roof. BUT they take the windscreen out to paint the roof properly, they won't do mask ans paint. BUT if the windscreen breaks or the windscreen rubber break then the onus is on me to pay for replacements.
The bonnet vinyl blackout sticker is ok until the paint starts to go in front of it.
Clear coat Paint used is not UV stabilized I was told from someone in the spray trade... probably right as the poms don't get many sunny days so LR didn't factor that in.
But it's not just Landies, I have seem a lot of Fords and Holdens with paint peeling, even the unbreakable Land Bruisers do it too, but they won't pwn up to it.

I have already had my bonnet resprayed, but the same is happening to my roof. And for my last birthday mum got my car detailed for a surprise, it was good having it done, although the stupid detailer thought my roof had fish oil on it (cause i have it everywhere else on my car - long story) anyway so he cut and polished the roof like 3 times to try and get rid of the marks... not a good idea all he did was took off my remaining layers of paint, now it is absolutely terrible
