lol Nahhh your alright. I was going to ask, when i got the car there was no bottle jack. now if i'm gonna do this lift i'm going to need a jack of some sort. Should i go with the bottle jack and use it or buy a trolley jack from super crap auto for around $50. Got jack stands and I WILL be using those after what happened to that poor bloke working on him monaro.

I reckon the bottle jack is the way to go as its easier to be able to put blocks underneath etc to get the height you need. Plus if you haven't already got a jack for the car you need one in case you need to change a wheel while on the road/track somewhere!!
I find the genuine ones quite good as they have the rounded piece on the top that sits nicely under the axle or chassis rail.

Unless you're going to get a big trolley jack with a decent amount of lift then they are just a PITA for a 4WD as they don't have sufficient lift to be useful.
Pretty sure you're looking more like a couple of hundred for a bigger one that would be suitable - you wont get one for $50.

I disagree about the trolley jack, i have a 1250kg one that is much easier to use than the pathetic factory bottle jack for home/garage use.

Get both! you can never have too many jacks!

seriously, like mentioned, you need the factory one and they are pretty darn good as they are a super strong and have a two stage action.

I tend to agree that you wont get much in the trolley depot for $50. Plus if you end up running big tyres (35"s coz we all want to ) you need one that has a high extension so that you dont have to stuff around with blocks etc. Think about how much use you will get out of it when you need to swap those Simex's for the road tyres before and after every trip

Remember:- a jacks not just for christmas, its for life.....

Just got a bottle jack from super cheap for $45, its rated for my D1 so should not have a prob. Always good though to have some jack stands, which i do. seen too many accidents when i was working in the panel trade, now i religously put two under when working on a car.

So....... hoping by this weekend the lift should be in.

    cheers simo
