Wait for a more knowledgable reply than mine. But I'm fairly sure you need a 2" lift kit, and cut the guards a fair bit, and get flairs to hide the guard panel damage. With 31s you can get away with 2" lift and just a bit of the rear guard, no need for flairs.

I run 245/75?/16 and they equate to 30.5 inch approx on 15 rims.
This is on 245 so 33 are heaps bigger and will be MUCH worse.
They rub hard and will buckle the rear panels easily when flexing the suspension if you dont lift at least 2 inches. As for the front it will rub on the right hand steering arm when turning on standard rims.
I have been advised that body lifts are the best for Disco 1 and minimal suspension lift as the flex is really good standard.
Personally after looking at the odds and panels etc I am more than happy with the 40mm lift and 245 tyres.
My 60 series cruiser had 3 inch lift, 32inch BFG mud, coil spring over the leafs which made is comfortable, flexable and tow with out sag and yet my lower Disco beat it hands down in the bush but I do miss the 190 ltr single fuel tank.
My thoughts and why I didnt do it but I am a novice to LR and love my D1 3 door.

So you have 245/75/16...on 15" Rims how does that work

or do you actually have 15 rims with these size tyres on

I obviously don't run 16 on 15 rims but I am sure some one has tried.
The word equate as per the dictionary is "to see or represent one thing as equal to another".

Another way to explain is that the difference between 245/75/16 (my car) is of a similar size or equal to approx (guessing) a 30.5 inch tyre (which I doubt was ever made) on 15 inch rims so even running standard size of 31/10.5/15 they are bigger than my 245/75/16 and will cause damage on a standard setup D1.

I hope this answers your question suitably.

i have had 245/75/16 muds on before i am looking at going to a 15 inch rim only because the difference in price for 4x4 tyres between a 15 in rim and a 16in rime is huge, i can get a set of 15 in black steel roh rims and the 33in federal's for 1k, where as 33in tyres for the 16 in rims i already have would cost a lot more

The problem you'll find Mick is most 33's in 15 " are 12.50 " wide and will scrub the f$ck out of the rear guards even with the offset 15" rims will provide, modded bumpstops and at least a 2" lift will be needed. It can be done without flares if you limit up travel and find narrow tyres like a 9.50 or 10.50 but in the end flares will make it easier.

285/75/16s, 2-inch spring lift, chopped guards and flares. Worked a treat
