FIRST OF ALL EXPECT TO HAVE THE BUSHES REPLACED IN THE DISRIBUTOR, THE DIZZY MUST BE PERFECT OR YOU MAY HAVE TUNE PROBLEMS AND BACKFIRES( YOU WILL FIND ITS CHEAPER TO BUY A NEW DIZZY ONLINE FROM THE UK THAN HAVE YOURS REBUILT HERE, ALLSO MAKE SURE YOU BUY SPIRAL WOUND IGNITION LEADS AND FIT IRIDIUM PLUGS OR STANDARD ONES NEVER PLATNUM. i HAVE HAD MY LPG FOR 3 YEARS AND ITS BEEN PERFECT, IT RUNS VERY WELL , I HAVE 2 TANKS SIDE BY SIDE WERE THE ORIGINAL TANK WAS THEN A SMALL FUEL TANK BEHIND THE REAR RIGH HAND WHEEL. THIS IS GOOD FOR ABOUT 600 KMS THEN I ADDED A 3RD GAS TANK FROM A EA FALCON BOOT, HAD IT TESTED AND FITTED. ITS OVER TO ONE SIDE SO I CAN USE ONE OF THE REAR SEATS. THIS GIVES ME ABOUT 800KMS. I HAVE DRIVEN FROM QLD TO VIC ACROSS TO SA AND UP TO NT AND BACK TO QLD AND NEVER USED PETROL ONCE. WORD OF WARNING USE THE FUEL SOME TIMES OR YOUR INJECTORS WILL STUFF UP, I REPLACED MINE WITH THE AMERICAN FORD ONES AND THEY ARE FANTASTIC

yes it would, i have a scorcher distributer made it australia, i run it at 13 deg before on lpg with 10.5 compression and it goes off harder than my honda civic 91 you wouldnet beleave me but it has some pin back when you drop the hamer.

I asked a few questions about getting lpg fitted to my D2 on here recently and mainly heard horror stories about slipped liners etc.

So is this common and if so how common and what can be done to limit the chances of it happening?

I remember some time back a thread on here as well discussing lpg and some saying that with some systems you get upto a 18 kw improvement in power output on a 4.0 V8.

If this is correct then I'd like to find out more info on this type of system?

Slipped liners isn't due to LPG in particular, its to do with overheating. Running LPG may increase your running temp by a few degrees only when you are at the limit of your cooling system, switching back to petrol helps then. I just read a post regards an over-temp alarm, probably good insurance.
I posted some pics recently about LPG conversions I have done on D2's, both standard and sequential injection systems can be successful. Injection is much more tolerant of poor spark plugs etc and there is definitely no noticeable power loss as there is nothing restricting the air intake. I use a Zavoli system because of good local (Adelaide) service back-up but there are other good systems around.
If you find a good local installer I can advise with correct spark plugs etc.
