LPG Gas Conversion ... Advice wanted

    Hi,

I own a 1996 Disco 3.9 V8i and am interested in converting to LPG ... I live in Sydney and am trying to find an installer who is experienced fitting LPG to Series 1 Discoverys ... does anyone have first hand experience good or bad with such a conversion and could you give me your thoughts on the pros and cons of the various systems for this vehicle ( the cheaper air flow vs injected system ???) .

    Also,

What sort of cost is involved and what consumption I can expect from a Discovery running on LPG (around town and on the highway). Plus any thoughts on maintenace for LPG system into the future.

Anyway, any advice would be really appreciated as I want to get back to using my Land Rover (after years of being parked up due to what turned out to be Air Flow meter problem ) ... LPG seems to be the best option to run a Disco and still keep a few dollars in my pocket !

    Cheers,

    Wozzadob

    Thumbs up

Hey Wazzadob,i got my disco 1 converted to gas 12 months ago at active automotives in blaxland (blue mountains),i got the airflow system and am happy with performance and economy (you obviously lose a bit of power but if your car its tuned well the difference isnt so great)it costs me around $30 per 300 ks or so depending on driving style and car setup. the conversion cost me $3100 and i got $2000 rebate...so $1100 for gas setup, pretty good value i think!!

Mine was done by KLR Automotive in Kingswood (Penrith). They have done a lot of Discos - they are LR specialists. Tel: (02) 4721-3675

Hi, try P & N motors, 89 - 91 Victoria Rd, Marrickville Council New South Wales - (02) 9519 6819, also known as Mr Gas. Has been doing gas convertions since they started.

He is happy to answer lots of silly questions, and knows how to get these motors running sweet. He will only put injection gas in these days, as he never gets complaints about it. Even if your not going to use him it is worth while talking to him.

p.s. they now do a tarodial tank for Disco's so you do not have to loose as much boot space. I wish they did them when I had my convertion done

How does a toroidal tank help in a Disco? There is no wheel well for the tank to fit into.

They stand them up and against the rear side window you can still get to the storage compartment and the 2/1 split means you can drop the 2 seats down for flat storage if needed.

    Check out

    Australian LPG Warehouse - Kits

terrible web site, no actual picture of the set up inside, but lots of info.

Australian LPG Warehouse are the importers for Eurogas vapor injection so they have a listing of all suppliers. Best of all they do not mind talking to the public about their products.
