A 2 second google check produced this and far more, saves me typing it, google is your friend

The process to install a distributor is as follows: Crank the engine over until the number one piston is coming up on the compression stroke. You can remove all the spark plugs and crank it over with your finger in the #1 spark plug hole and wait until you feel the compression start to build up. Both valves will be closed.
Next, watch for the timing mark to come to TDC. Stop the cranking there. Now set the distributor so that the rotor is pointing at the #1 position on the distributor, ie. where the #1 spark plug wire would be when the cap was in place.
Insert the distributor into place and make sure the gear is engaged. Then push it into place. The distributor gear is a bevel gear which means that the distributor shaft will rotate when you push it into place. You need to watch to see how much it turns and then compensate by backing off the position on initial insertion so that it is perfectly lined up when it is fully seated.
The oil pump shaft may be driven by the bottom of the distributor. If it is then it may be difficult to get the distributor to line up with the hex shaft in the oil pump at the same time you have the gears lined up. When you are absolutely sure you have it ready to go in and have the gears engaged, just rotate the engine a slight bit until the oil pump shaft lines up and it will go in easily.
Recheck the position by going thru the cranking process described above and make sure that the rotor points to the #1 position on the cap when the crankshaft is lined up on TDC on the compression stroke.
Remember, the crankshaft is lined up on TDC twice as the distributor turns around, once on TDC when the piston is coming up on the exhaust stroke and once when it is coming up on the compression stroke!! Don't get the two positions confused. Make sure you are on TDC on the compression stroke

I've just had a set back by the coil I need a new coil after driving for awhile on the highway I had power loss then it got so bad I had to pull over and call my brother who dropped by with a spare coil and hey presto like a new car.

So it was a combination of the two the dizzy and the coil.

How have you found the new dizzy? And have you
noticed a difference in the way the car runs at all?
    Looking at getting one myself.
    Cheers

Yeah while the car was still going on the test drive there was improvement in the way it started much quicker and I could feel a power improvement but the coil was holding it back.

I had a coil ordered but when it arrived today it was the wrong type for the coil spark plug lead I have had to go to another joint tomorrow who has one brand in stock and the other brand he has to order I will see tomorrow.

I wouldn't use those electronic coil ... if this is what you are considering ... Just use the original black can // "Rovercraft" (or others) is your friend in this instance

I brought a coil from Burson this morning installed it and the engine would not start at all like there was no spark I put the origninal coil back in engine started so I took the coil back they gave me a replacement. Got back home installed the replacement and the same thing again engine cranks but cranks like there is no spark connected the original coil back in and started. A mate of mine who has a V8 ute tried his coil and the engine started.

I called burson to let them know the coil they gave is also no good they guy tried to blame the land rover being faulty somewhere else but I explained to him why it starts with the original and with my mates coil but yours act like I have no spark they don't want to give me a refund really cuase they think 2 coils can't be duds.

Does this indicate an issue else where with the land rover or have they just given me dud cheap sh*t coils.

The brand is ACA - Engine Management Solitions - C174

On my old coil it has C174 but there is no brand name and it's all black.

Too me and my mate it's deffinitly the coil playing up as once the engine has reach a certin temp the engine stutters then die's ?

Take the "Burson" coil & stick it in your mates ute .... If there is still no spark ... then that proves 100% that the coil is "cactus erecti sorous" ....

Yep we did that it coughed and spallated and died and didn't start again put his original one back and it started then swaped again same thing again nothing but was a hint of a spark but that was all.

Proves they have a dud batch or there been listed for the wrong car ?

I'm taking it back before they close to get my money back today.
I called ritter's in Melbourne and they quoted me $110.00 for a genuine coil.
