    Indicator bump

When I drive over a sharp bump the indicators turn on and can only be turned off by turning the engine off and restarting. Any ideas why. 1997 300TDi Auto .

Well I can only guess a short...I dont know whether the bump could make a relay stick if its a bit dodgy

It is meant to do this. If the inertia switch detects a bit too much of a jolt the car "thinks" it might have had an accident and switches the hazard lights on automatically.

It is perfectly normal but just means you might need to drive a little slower down those pot-holled roads

Make sure the inertia switch is tight. If it's loose for some reason, it can bounce a bit more than it should & trigger early.

yep exactly right ... happened to me a couple of times ....although took a heck of a bump/landing while offroad to do it. Should never happen in normal driving conditions.

Might be time to upgrade the suspension.

Well that just sounds like someone at LR was being a bit too clever to me.
So the next question is where is the inertia switch located so I can see if it needs tightening up as Scouse mentioned?

    not clever enough I reckon,,

The old TX3 rally cars (B6 motor?)would turn off if it thought you had rolled the car.

and thats probably a good thing--

I found this problem on my big trip last month. Very rough corrigations triggered it.

Came home, searched net, it is common problem. By memory from my search (I havent done it yet myself) under the glovebox there is a green (?) box, secure it with cable ties or something. This is what I read, havent done it yet, google is your friend.

The inertia switch is on the firewall inside the engine bay on the passenger side (or at least it should be). I'm not sure if it it is shown in the owners handbook but if your hazards lights are coming on fairly regularly then it'll probably be loose and easily spotted.

I replaced my Inertia switch after I removed it and gave it the slightest tap and the ball would trip, the replacement one was not so sensitive.

Embarrassing when you drive on a mild corrigated track and a Toyo is in sight and your hazards start flashing, even worse when they stop and think you are in trouble
