    Windscreen advice!

    G/day All

    I need to replace my cracked windscreen, should i replace the side rubber strips as well? if so where can i source these strips from....

    It is possible to re use the rubbers if they are not damaged, but if you do damage them during the windscreen removal your stuffed. The rubbers are expensive around $200 for the set and any of the windsceen repairers or panel beaters can supply them.

    are you replacing the screen or getting someone to do it, unless they are in mint condition id replace them as rubber dont last forever and a leaky windscreen could cause you problems

    No im not doing it.....Im going to claim the windscreen on my insurance,
    i dont wont any leaks so im thinking of changing the rubbers as well...this windscreen has been replaced about 10 years ago and has been leaking for a while....i dont know if my windscreen insurance covers the rubber seals(will ring them) if it does'nt i will supply them to the installer ..if i can source these at a good price....

    The rubbers are part of the windscreen so will be covered by your insurance. It's very hard to get the windscreen out without damaging the rubbers. And who ever is doing the windscreen will supply the rubbers so you won't need to go looking for them.

    Isn't it a bonded windscreen?
    So the rubber is just trim?

    On mine you can peel the rubbers forward easily and see that it is bonded and mine doesn't leak.

    They are trim but they are clipped under the windscreen, so you have to remove the windscreen to change the rubbers.

    Agree with Chunk. If it is an insurance job then they should cover cost of the screen and anything else required to do the job.

    if its insurance id definatly get them di it, ill be dong mine through insurance soon and ill be making sure they fit new rubbers

    Thanks for the replies......

    I will contact my insurer to see if i can take it to a repairer of my choice...and if so,will speak to them about getting the rubber strips in first... before getting it done..... that way im without the disco for that day only....
