    Little help needed

I did replaced the rotor button and dizzy cap on my disco but when i tried to start it the dizzy cap is like wobbling. The rotor button is a genuine one which I bought from Land Rover but the dizzy cap is a Bosch non genuine one which I bought from Bursons.

My friend suggested I may have damged the dizzy when removing the rotor button. What do you guys think? Want some more opinions before I shell out some moeny for a new dizzy.

At the risk of asking a dumb question are you certain you have put the cap on the right way round, it's normally keyed to only fit properly one way. Also does the old cap still fit and work ok ? If it does it has to be the new one. I can't see how you could damage the distributor itself with a plastic cap or rotor.

    Good luck with it.

take the cap off again and have a look inside for any bits of broken plastic or bent points.
Take the new cap off again and compare your old cap and rotor button/arm witht the new ones.

i have another question. the car won't crank over or sometimes it won't even crank. we're not 100% sure if the timing is correct but besides that is there something else i've over looked?

i think the leads are correct as they don't have numbers on them but i got details from the land rover workshop manual.

the spark seems a bit small. any ideas on why that is?

The leads being right or wrong won't stop it cranking over. Or the timing for that matter. Check the battery connections are nice and tight and I think there is an earthing lead from the starter motor that can work slightly loose and cause these sorts of issues. May even be the starter motor itself. Give it a gentle bash with a spanner or hammer next time it won't crank if the leads ar all tight.

    Good luck.
