What suspension works best in a D1

Hi just after an insight on what works best for a D1. Im looking at ARB OME, but have also seen the kit available from LRA.
IM new to disco's but have had a fender for some time. Does the disco suffer from lifts like the fender? Ie. castor

Any help is greatly appreciated and cannot wait till 2moz when i pick up the disco.

Check your swivel preload, wheel bearing adjustment, panhard rod bush's, radius arm bushs, steering damper etc. That should stop that fat kid shaking his @rse about.

Everyone seems to go EFS, OME etc, some of which has been described as "truck" suspension,, so I went for a Pedders 2" lift, and I couldnt be happier. Ive had them on tojos as well and my old series 3.
I seem to have good travel, stability on the road and a "softish" comfy ride in the bush.

BEST, depends on what you want your suspension to do.
ARB is good for long distance travel as its designed for load carrying.
LRA can tailor a set of springs to suit, from load carrying to very flexible for lots of wheel travel.
But you must remember, that with a flexy soft spring you car will handle like a boat at speed on the black top.

Also ARB shock absorbers are only a mid range product and will fade when used for lots of long distance touring on corrugated roads.
Bilstein or Koni are better for this type of use.

In the past be it a Disco or RRC, I put either Lovell or King springs with 50mm lift and Koni or Bilstein shocks.

Cost usually around $1500 incl fitting and the ride is much better.

Just had a quick look on suspension stuff and a set of bilsteins and a set of dobbinsons will set you back a grand total of $1100. Thats pretty damn good ! I will be purchasing this set up when I get my tax back.

When I bought my 94 disco about 8 years ago? I put a heap of ARB stuff into her; apart from having to replace bushes on the suspension I am very happy with the ARB quality. I have a 65mm lift from memory it might have been 75mm but cant remember. 135lt long range fuel tank I think but it could have been the 120lt, lockers front and rear, bullbar winch & IPF 9000 spotties. none of which has ever let me down lockers are unbelieveable for controlled off road work - but they are a traction aid only a winch will get you out if you get stuck when using them

Truth is as far as I can tell any of the more reputable wholesalers offer very good products I guess it comes down to finances and what you intend to do with it.

the suspension is so superior to the original that there is hardly any comparison even after 8 or 9 years of hard work, it is still better than the much newer Prado that I bought my SWMBO
