Very Odd Problem With New Coils .

I thought it best to start a new thread on this as it has me stumped as to what the problem now is.

For starters my 95 3.9 V8i played up to a trip to Melbourne pulled into a mechanic he swapped the dizzy ran better got me home at least but there was a hezitation from take off.

At home I got a brand new dizzy but an upgrade with a new module that is attached to the dizzy itself instead of the module next to the coil.

Took for a test drive things went ok to a certin point when the engine became worse again but much worse had to pull over and call for help from my brother who replaced the coil with an old 6 cyclinder that got me home at least.

Now this is were it has me stumped it started with getting a new coil from burson put that in the engine was turning over but like it had no spark thought I got a dud went back and got a replacement but it was just the same thing again but this time I put the original coil back in and bang it started and idled but the new in and nothing just cranking.

I got my money back from burson's as we thought we were getting either dud's or wring coil's

Went to the land rover dealership in Geelong brought a $165.00 coil picked up this morning installed it this after noon and the same thing again no start just cranking put original in and bang starts and ided ????

OK why is it doing this why won't it start with a new coil I can't get this land rover to anyone to look at as I will just get stuck on the side of the road again. Plus I am trying to sell it

Too me it just doesn't make sense ??????

    I need help

I just called North Geelong Auto Electric's and I am hoping that a guy there can pop around and have a look as to why this is happening but the guy behind the counter mentioned that it sounds like a voltage problem to the coil.

Just a thought - one coil starts the vehicle and one does not. So is one coil a ballast coil and the other a non ballast coil? Not sure which one you should have but there are two types.

How can you tell ? all the coils look the same ?

I think you mean that white ceramic thing that is either next to or near the coil then no the land rover does not have one and even then aren't they only seen on engines with a points dizzy ?

I just called the dealership with that question and there not listed for my Discovery only one type coil for electronic dizzy's so it's not the wrong coil.

Could it be the new dizzy you bought? Just a thought.
    Might be faulty.

Well I hope not but this issue has been the same with the old dizzy and old module so it hard to beleve that it could be.

have you bench tested the coils it could be as simple as the coil to dizzy lead has had it or you have a bad earth connection to the coil.

Coil to dizzy lead is new and if it was the case then it would have done it all the time me thinks.

It be a earth issue just don't know.
