I love my Disco but she's locking me in !

    Hi,

Any idea's please. 94 Tdi 200. Got an alarm and central locking fitted. Lately when opening the doors the drivers side door starts to open, then sticks.

I can pull it shut tight again however it won't let me in or out unless I either lock then unlock it again or pull up on the locking indicator stalk in the door. Then seems to work ok until next time. Is this the dreaded worn springs issue I have read about on here ?

    Regards

    Marty

I think it may be the dreaded tiny spring in the locking mechanism thats broken... theres plenty of threads on this here. I changed mine about a month ago.

    Smile door locks

I jumped on to ebay and bought some replacement springs, I've replaced two so far, the tailgate is an absolute dog to replace but the right hand rear door was easy

Excellent, that's great to hear Gazz as I have the springs on order. Only 2 gone so I'll just replace those and keep the rest for when needed.

I also should say that when I replaced my springs on both front doors, I cleaned the lock itself with turps.. but didnt re-lube them. They started sticking and wouldnt lock properly, so I bought some CRC heavy duty lube and now its working like a charm. So make sure you re-lube the mechanism, else you may end up having to pull the door trims off again.
