    Unhappy OK Well.........What now????

LoL all i can do is laugh i guess maybe cause i'm loseing my sanity

Just picked up my 300tdi from the spanners after major engine work done only to find that in 1st gear (Auto) rev's to nearly 3000rev's then kicks in hard, 2nd gear does the same thing but not that high of rev's and not so hard. LoL like before she was going fine (Auto Box). So here i'm guessing and trying to make myself feel a bit better, cause they have had the engine out to do the block i'm sure they didnt tweak something properly or adjusted something, heres hoping

Thought i'd have a bit of look see myself something came to me to check the auto trans fluid......MMMMmmmmmm just might be????? Go to pull the dipstick out and she wont budge!!!!! i mean i had that much force trying to pull it out and it just would not move, twist pull nothing. Anyone had this problem before?????

Anyway while the steam started to slowly creep out of my ears i noticed a oil leak (No idea where from) under the car and on top of the front diff housing!!!!! Looking at a 2x4 sitting right near me i had bad idea's (For the truck that is) LoL

So i'll have to wait till monday morning to call and see if i can bring it back for a check over cause they are not open on the weekend. Now Would it be safe to drive in the condition its in, only thinking about the high rev's of 3thou and the new head and gasket just installed.

Well headed of to bed now and hoping i'll wake in the morning and its all a bad dream LoL.

    cheers simon

MY guess and it is just that because I didnt do the job and is not there.
My understanding the engine block has been changed.
The only thing they really needed to touch whisle doing that is the kickdown adjustment which has the effect moving the gear change point either up or down the Rev range.(a simple adjustment and one that needs to be done by a test drive and also adjusted to the owners require ments.)
Sometimes if the vehicle has done a run and cooled off it will put a vacuum in the transmission making it hard to pull the dip stick if it has a rubber plug on the end sealing it.
The oil leak could be afew things, but most likely from changing the oil filter as it runs oil over the diff housing.
It could be leaking engine oil cooler hoses.(a landrover weak point)
Yes if they were slack no one may have bothered to check the trans oil.
Usually if I have a engine out I always change the torque convertor oil seal to save work later on and tell the customer this so and the charge will be added.
I would go back and act dumb and cool and just tell them you found wrong ......after all your the test driver of the job and the best person to do it. (and find whats been missed and not is right)
It was a big job too.
I would ask if they changed or checked the transmission oil and changed the torque convertor oil seal.....or look in the invoice for it.
Work with the mechanics and not against them.
If they stuffed up and if you help in a nice way by giving them information they need and act dumb by pointing out should have that been done?
It will be fixed at no extra charge and everyone will be happy as they do not want to lose a customer and there name.
    Keep us informed
    regards Ron

Hi simon, Did you get my reply in the other thread about your auto adjustment? As already just stated here, the cable would've been off etc and was possibly not fitted up again correctly. There are 2 adjustments on a Tdi kickdown cable, either could be out.

Oh the other thing that i noticed (God i'm picky) is that once the truck has stoped and has been switched off, i open the bonnet and hear a little hissing sounds coming from the Coolant resi bottle, i'm thinking its the cap??? is that a bad thing for it to hiss once you have switch her off??

    Hi Joker,

Just had a look at mine and the kick down cable appears to me to be the lower cable on the throttle body (are they still called a "throttle body" on diesels or is that a petrol thing?) on the drivers side of the engine, just below the AC compressor.

A couple of correctly sized spanners, undo the lock nuts on the bracket just aft of the throttle body and adjust to your hearts content. Mine appears to be set roughly in the middle of the range of adjustment, a fair amount of right boot required to get it to kick back which is how I like it.

Just a matter of making small adjustments, take her for a spin round the block and readjust if required.

Hope this helps with the auto issues.

No help with the others I'm afraid, good luck with them.

    Cheers

    Pando.
