This is a quote taken from someone on here about transmission wind up
If there is no centre diff in the driveline, as you drive along you end up with the drive train having excessive pressure on the drive shafts and axels due to front or rear axels wanting to run at slightly different speeds due to cornering
how ever the fact that you have extinguished light pretty much straight away after moving the lever...I would hazard a guess that your ok. as I blieve if there is any kind of wind up in the driveline it can make it very difficult to get the cdl to unlock due to the excessive pressure on it. I'am by no means an expert on this so hopefully someone will chime in and put you straight

If you have the owners manual for the car I suggest a good starting point would be to read it.

    Hi mate,
welcome to the joys of Disco ownership! The CDL-lever can be a bit stiff, especially if it hasn't been used much for years. A drop or two of some WD40 or similar will do wonders.
As for the potential damage... well it's hard to guess but as the distance was only a few kms and the surface was rather loose chances are that no damage has been done at all. After all, the TC is quite sturdy. To give you some perspective: I myself managed to drive with engaged CDL for several 100kms on more or less metalled roads, before it occurred to me what it was that wasn't quite right... I immediately changed the oil, which smelled burned, but there was no significant detritus neither in the fluid or on the plug magnet. Sometimes you are lucky....
    Cheers
    Johannes
