    Oil leak!

    Greetings all,
I have a small oil leak (shock Horror) looks like gearbox oil coming what looks to be around the top. Has anyone had this problem before and where did it come from?

    Cheers

yeah I have a gearbox leak also....mine drips slowly from the bottom of the bell housing...I believe its a gearbox out to change the seal so i will wait until the gearbox needs a recon

Hi, the leak between gearbox and transfer comes from the intermediate axe from the transfer, so You have to check the transfer oil level periodically.
    It burns without oil!

Land Rovers do leak fluids in order to show that's fluid inside.
The trouble comes when the leak stops!

    Oil leak!

    Cheers to all,
Ithought that the answer would be just top the oil up!
Dont you love owning a car that all you have to do when you do an oil change is to change the filter!

There is a fault with the vacum pump for brake booster (small leak), it seam diesels don't have a vacum so they had to add one. I got a price to replace the part, you don't want to know how much!!!!! Instead I bought a Karcha high pressure cleaner and some degreaser, much cheaper!!

    Jim, mate,
you don't tell us what top you are talking about. As engine, gear box and TC use different oils it should be not too difficult to establish the main source. Then look for the ultimate reason (probably a leaking gasket or flange).
We all have had this before, haven't we? Remember that any Landy can leak from anywhere!
    Cheers & Good Luck!

If the vaccum pump itself is leaking it is a sign for trouble to come as it will fail without warning, leaving you with no brake pressure all of a sudden. Been there, done that (with a trailer behind, tried to stop at a toll booth, came to a halt about 50m behind, luckily no car in front of me. PHEEEW...). Replacement is not difficult and the cost of a pump negligible compared to what can happen if it fails.
In your case, though, my bet is on the gasket, which can be replaced easily and for little money.
    Just my 2c...
    Cheers

There are people who spend all weekend cleaning the car.
And there are people who drive Discovery.
