Thread: 300 tdi sometimes won't start and alarm light stays on

Hi All,
My 98 Tdi occasionally won't disable the alarm and allow the vehicle to start. I try to click the button on the fob, but the red light won't go off and the key won't do anything. When this happens the fob also won't lock or unlock the doors.

It has happened about 4 times now and it has worked eventually, although sometimes I have to wait for 10 minutes. Is this the 'immobiliser spider' problem? It looks as though that is a bit different.

Any ideas on how to temporarily start it when this happens and how to fix it permanently?

Just an update...
I did discover that the battery in the fob was getting low, so I have replaced it. I will see what happens now.
