The alarm spider wasn't fitted to the 1995 model Disco. It appeared in 1996 with the 2 button remote.

The only 1995 model which had an alarm was the ES model & I'm sure they didn't use the spider.

    Can you check your VIN - SALLJGMM3MA = 1995.

Correct ... AGAIN Scott! You're right, I have only seen 94's and 95's with the single button ones, thinking about it

The other suspects I guess then could be the actual fuel pump relay, or the wiring at the pump plug under the rear floor, I haven't seen an inertia switch problem yet with these so hopefully it should be easy enough now to isolate the problem.

Any or all of them can fail. The quickest way to check this is inside the LH rear wheel arch is a small connector that is the loom to the fuel tank unit. try applying 12volts to the White/purple wire and see if the pump works. This means you have completely eliminated the alarm immobiliser 'spider' and it is most likely the root cause. A bypass plug is available from LR it is AMR 4956 If I remember rightly. In a 1995 model, it is located under the radio on top of the heaterbox. A right pain to get to

i will have a go at using an independent 12V power source...and report back.

Just got the wife in on this and got her to wiggle the harness conenction on top of the fuel pump while i turn the key in the driver's seat.

Then we took it in turns.

We both noticed and heard the fuel pump whirl when we in the back fiddlign with the harness but were unabel to hear the pump whirl when sitting in the driver's seat.

Would this indicate that it is somethign else like a blockage or something and not the fuel pump??

IF the pump is working, then you will notice on the fuel rail on the drivers side of the engine a shrader valve fitting. gently depress the valve inner, be careful as there could be fuel pressure in there. If not, then a noisy pump doesn't mean there is actual flow and pressure coming from it ,and you may want to also crimp the fuel return line to ensure the pressure regulator isn't bleeding off . If you ARE getting a spray of fuel, and dry spark plugs, then I would suspect lack of injector pulse. This could be due to a lack of signal to the ECU from cranking, IE the pulse signal from the coil/distributor is what tells the ECU the engine is being cranked and pulses the injectors. A RAVE disc will help you with further diagnostics, as I can';t remember the pin numbers to test in the 14CUX ECU. Search function here may help though?

Have you checked to see if you have any pressure on the fuel rail.If you dont then you may be looking at a fuel pressure regulator problem

    great info there.

    GUESS WHAT! - IT STARTED!

I had disconnected and then reconnected the harness connector from underneath tank (towards rear passenger wheel).

It seems something in there was either ditry or lose or both...

Thanks for the journey guys - some great key learnings and systematic thoughts.....
