yes - i have a multimeter and will check for voltage across coil.

    How to check for module?

Best way to supply a 12v supply to the coil directly from the battery?

    I will rpeort back.

Sorry, I meant voltage AT the coil pos lead. You can run a jumper wire from battery or alternator battery connection with crocodile clips as a test lead.

my multimeter is stuffed - sorry.

so, to clarify - 2 x jumper leads (+ and -ve) from battery to coil?

Where on coil do i place the + jumper and where on coil to place the - ve jumper?

when you say "voltage AT the coil pos lead" - which lead is this?

Where is the fuel filter located?

Only need 1 wire, positive feed from battery to the coil pos, which is the one with the female black plastic covered plug. The voltage at that plug with ignition switched on should be 12 to 12.5 volts. If non evident or it is very low, then use the jumper wire to the coil and try cranking and see if there is then a spark at the coil lead where it goes into the dist cap. If there is a spark at the coil lead but not getting to the spark plug leads, then suspect the rotor botton or the carbon post in the cap.
The fuel filter is down in side the RH rear wheel arch, above the rear shock top mount. You will need 5/8" and 13/16" spanners to undo it, and a 13mm one to loosen the clamp holding it to the chassis.

    Update...

I paid my RAA fee and got them to come out and have a peep.

Tested for spark in multiple places - NOTHING!

Now I need to have it towed to the nearest RAA approved repairer and get the low down on what the problem is...

All - what do you think it may be?

just got an initial report back from the auto-electricians.

They stated it may be the ignition module.

Can anyone please state how much (ballpark) this module may cost to replace?

Give Phil a ring at TRS in Lonsdale 8384 6933. Ask him for a 96 V8 disco ignition module cost. On your car it is located on the radiator support panel on the passenger side next to the coil. It is an aluminium heat sink with some components on it - the components are the ignition module. Part number probably STC 1856.

Take a piccie of the installation, then substitute the "new" for old.

BTW if your fuel pump is the same as the 93 V8 Disco then a fuel pump from a VN Commodore will fit (need to swap wire connectors from Disco pump to VN pump) and it costs around $70, Regards Frank.
