    gas question againP

i was driving my 95 v8i disco a little hard last week on gas i switched to petty for a bit then when i switched back to gas i herd a funny sound in the gas tank only way i can discribe it is it sounded like somone who has the runs and sit on the loo reilfing themselfs,

since this it runns funny now, on take offs and speeds which are lowere then 1500rpm its cough and splatters anything over 1500rpm she runs a dream on gas as well as petrol
i also find now that it runs like this till the last quater of tank of gas or so then runs like noghtings wrong

whats happened to me gas tank ?

id like to get it back running nice if i can as it only cots me a tank and a bit to go to work and back <$30 odd>

    Few quick questions

How old is the gas system?

    Is it still under warranty?

How low was the gas level?

Don't quote me on this, but if could have a faulty AFL valve (automatic fill limiter)

That would explain the funny noise, you could be unlucky and picked up some rust flakes in the gas and now its stuck somewhere ?

highly unlikely though, doubt many gas trucks, plant vessles and trucks would corrode as propane is non corrosive to ferrous metals.

Back on the faulty AFL valve, have you been able to fit more gas in the tank since this has happened?

ok that gas was installed in 06

the gas was maybe 3/4 to half a tank maybe when this noise happened

well i filled up yesterday at 45.9 and got 40-45L into the tank before it was full, and full was full usually if i leave the leaver locked on you can still see the counter moving but yesterday when it filled up and stopped that was it

is it costly for and AFL valve?

I'd probably start by calling the people who fitted it first, it doesn't sound like an expensive job if the car still actually runs on LPG. The fact that the tank isn't overfilling though sounds like the AFL might be ok. It's there to ensure the tank has enough room left for temperature fluctuations to allow expansion etc.

Maybe it's at the other end (convertor) and the noise you heard was the gas leaving the tank quickly.

Either way, gas is volatile in open areas, so I'd be inclined to get it checked out asap.
I once saw photos of a really nice Mustang in Melb that'd burnt to the ground because the gas system was being worked in and the vapours in the air ignited due to the workshops air compressor being nearby.

I agree with boxer. have a good look under the bonnet around the gas mixer if you havent allready, look for any vacuum leeks around the intake (hoses) area.

    good luck mate

Also, I forgot to mention. If it is coughing and spluttering, check to see if the converter is freezing up. That'll do it too, but doesn't explain the tank noise.

    excess flow valve

You have probably tripped the "Excess Flow Valve" it lives underneath the outlet tap. When you turned the LPG back on you were probably pushing the gas pedal. It should reset when you turn on LPG when you are not pushing it, or stationary. Some older tanks you just set the outlet tap to between 1/4 and 1/2 turn open only, this reduces the peak flow to below the excess flow trip rate. Still should give full power.
