300 TDi Auto Just cuts out

Hi guys, bit of a strange one this is, but as Im used to the TD5, this I thought I would throw open to anyone who may have an idea.

its a friends 300 TDi EDC auto, don't 70,000 miles, (jap import), drives superb around town with no issues at all. Car has had a full service, new lift pump, new silicone turbo hoses etc.

When driving along at say 50-60 mph, put your foot right down and she begins to accelerate but then just cuts the power completely, engine stays at around normal RPM, but just has no guts, if you let the pedal off and re-apply the gas, she then goes again. It almost like the turbo stops dead......

It can be made to do it when accelerating hard up a hill, if the vehicle is loaded up then a long climb up a hill will cause the same issue if you apply full throttle to keep the speed.

Any ideas on this one ?

Had a similar issue with an EDC D1 aswell, a Jap import also, in WA when I was over there. It turned out it was a throttle potentiometer, which we had to get from UK.
I wouldn't discount the good old collapsing turbo hose though. It will also give the same symptoms.
Annoyingly i have full diagnostics on my Rovacom for EDC Tdi, but none to diagnose

    Thanks JC,

Its def not the hoses as they are all shiny new silicone ones, but the throttle potentionmeter sounds like it could be the culprit. Thanks for the info

Cor blimey gov!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!..........just looked it up, its a pricey little thing aint it!!!!!!! :O

Incidently, would this not give issues all the time ? as it only does it when its well warmed up AND under load (up a hill)

Well yes, if it is the throttle pot then it should play up even when cold. Have you checked to see if the wastegate is sticking closed? I'm not familiar enough with the EDC system to say for sure, but the Td5 has an overboost fuel cutout when over boosting,IE wastegate not opening?
