Has anyone ever fitted or seen fiited turbo's or supercharger to a V8 petrol/gas discovery before?
I know they already have good torque and heaps of go. I am not looking for a 7 second quarter mile or anything stupid like that with 30psi of boost.
From my understanding any and all naturally aspirated engines allways have inlet manifold air pressure at below atmosphere and that can be substantially lower due to filters, torturous air flow path ect. The air is sucked in under vacumm. Less air less power
I do some pretty heavy towing sometimes and it would be good to have just a little more torque.
I would only be looking for very minimal boost pressure of maybe 2-5 psi and maybe even 5 would be to high.
I was wondering would a few pounds make a noticeable differance, can it be done, has anyone seen it done.
I understand that there is a lot of work with turbos to install them. New exhaust manifolds, oil supply lines ect. Probably not enough room either as they can produce phenominal heat thus causing all sorts of secondary problems.
So was leaning toward a supercharger, only needing waste gate and some drive pulley modifications. taking off the plennum cover and the plennums would leave a bit of room there. Some of the more mechanical details like air flow data, size of pulleys and available superchargesr/blowers/compressors i would have to work out.
Some of the newer fords and holdens here have them on 3.6 and 4.0 litre engines (i think that is the size of the donks) . They seem to be very sleek and dont have the bug catcher hanging out of the bonnet like a drag car with the butterfly assemblys in full view. Just looking for a few ideas and or hints.

Strange you should ask - I was looking at the very thing on ebay last week - it sold for $1500 -
The listing explains your options for an external blower - I've seen conventional rootes systems bolted onto the block and then the plenum on top of that - but that was a serious rev head type of thing.

the Ford Inline 6 turbo motor is brilliant! give them another 5-10 years to come down in price and they'll be red hot in the modifers scene
I dont know anything bout the Rover V8's, but there's a few things that usually need changing when adding a bit of boost.
Fuel Injectors - are they big enough to supply enough fuel?
Air Flow Meter - Often get "maxxed" out. even with a few PSI, the motor will be sucking in a lot more air. Often the AFM will get to a point where it can no longer accurately measure the air flow in to the motor.
ECU - may need upgrading if you want to tune the motor properly.
If I won lottery, i'd run a supercharger at 5-10psi. Upgrade the injectors and run an aftermarket, MAP-sensed ECU

thanks for the info, i had'nt even thought that the mass air flow meter could be inadequate or that the injectors be to small let alone the ecu not good enough.

CAPA do a bolt on supercharger kit for the 3.9. Prices start around $6000 depending on what you want. As for the turbo option, I pretty sure someone on here runs a turbo charged Rover V8. Can't remember who it is though, someone else may be able to help with that one.
