The original stereo in my old Disco 1998 have in the corners (in the face) one tiny hole.
You have to insert a pin in the holes to release the stereo from the cradle, Have you done that?
    Sorry my spanglish

Some of the after market stereos have a security thing were you have to insert a purpose made metal sleeve about the size of point file down each side of the stereo which releases it from the cradle that is screwed in to the dash.

push newspaper into the cassette slot and burn it out.
or take the surround off and try finding the slots or holes mentioned above and pull it out.

You can try 2 thin plastering tools ( I do not know what they are called) and slide them down each side at the same time. Then you try to pull the unit out.

There are often tabs that you bend on the frame before you insert the stereo and they need to be held back in order to side the stereo out.

For a better explanation have a look at the instructions for your new stereo, it will tell you what they did when they installed the old one.

I can't believe it was so hard to get out.....

perhaps it was glued in like topgear did to the buttons of captain slows 17year old puller
