just above the steering arm you will find a small (3/8th usually) male square drive plug. remove that and theres the filling hole. Turn hard towards the side you're filling to make that hole clear the swivel ball to make filling and dipping easy.
Currently just waiting to change my swivel hub seal but i just want to fill it up while its still weaping around the seal, where does one fill it up from or do you have to take everything off??? i have a 91 disco 300tdi and the seals that isa damaged is on the drivers side.
cheers simon

Yep waht dave said is the go but pump in grease in stead of oil if its leaking as the grease wont run straight back out
I usualy run a mix of 75% grease and 25% gear oil in my swivels and i keep the axle seals at the back of the swivel hub to prevent the oil from the diff mixing with the oil/grease mix in the swivel.. This also mixes with the hubs as i run a grease oil mix in there as well i find this the best way to go and it prevents water from geting into the diff through the swivels too ...
So how do you know how much oil is in there at the moment???? i have a bottle of One Shot grease that i got when i got my swivel hub seal. when you fill it up, do you wait till it come out of the fill hole????
Sorry very dumb here, so the axle seals and swivel hub seals are completly different???
So tomoz when i find this fill hole i just hit it with one shot grease and thats it???
sorry for my ignorence..

There is the filling plug on top, the drain plug down below and the level plug inbetween. Opening the level plug should provoke a little dribble, then you're set to go. As for the amount, IIRC it should be 0.35l of oil in each swivel pin housing (hypoid gear oil I think it was).

There are people who spend all weekend cleaning the car.
And there are people who drive Discovery.
If I'm filling with oil I fill to the bottom of the threads for the filler plug (the plug isnt horizontal like a gearbox plug but its not vertical either.) (this gives you a head of oil which winds up in the bearings and backloads into the diff)
If Im going one shot grease I Just add what I can (to the level), keep whats left and add more as you need to.
The swivel seal is the big one that you can see that usually drips oil onto the tyre.
The hub seal is one you cant see but puts oil onto the disc and then onto the inside of the rim
the flange seal is (depending on who you talk to) the seal between the drive flange and the wheel hub (5 or 6 bolts depending on if your series or later) and is usually a gasket or bead of gasket sealastic
The outer axle seal is the metal or rubber cover that goes over the drive flange (this is occasionally called the flange seal and is metal for a series or rubber for everything else that doesnt have MAXI Drives)
The inner stub axle seal is one you cant see and is usually the one at fault if you have oil leaking out past the axle into the outer axle seal (the rubber cuppy thing)
the diff housing seal is one you cant see and is the one at fault if when you leave your vehicle parked on a side slope wind up with your swivel housings over full and your diff oil level low.

if you are using one shot than i would drain all the oil and put in the complete tube of one shot.....
bit hard if you have the swivs that are ment to be one shot filled from manufacture. No drain and no level plug.
