Vacuum pump on 300 Tdi motor

My Vacum pump is leaking, not bad but enough to be a pain. So I bought one from Rover spares VIC now I need to put it in, looking at the manual it looks simple except for lining up the first cylinder, any ideas?

You dont need to line it up, it just makes it easier to bolt on but can be done without it. If you are worried about it, remove the power wire from the inj pump and give it a quick flick of the key untill it goes in easily.

I bought it from Rover parts

    http://www.roverparts.com.au

it cost $363 plus express post postage of $12.50 delivered in a couple of days. I got a quote to fix my original and it was $800 plus.

The pump is exactly the same as the original

There are a few guys here that have repaired them, a few $$ worth of bolts and some gasket cement and good as new.

Some of the vacum pumps have rivets holding the top plate on and these loose tension and you get the leak. Others have torx screws holding the plate on and can be tightened up. Mine started to leak a couple of months ago and I found that it had the torx screws. I replaced them with appropriate size bolts and no problems since. I think maybe after market vacum pumps have the torx so if your not sure of the history of the pump check before replacing the entire thing. Sorry can't remember what size torx or bolt size.

Mine is leakin, nothing bad but still rather fix it a.s.a.p...it also has the rivets as well...CAN YOU drill out the old rivets and put new ones in????

I have a drill bit thats made for removal of old rivets but you can use your standard drill bit as well.

    cheers simon
