Thread: Alpine window removal and blacking them out

Black paint works well. Remove the trims first, mask up any others nearby & away you go.
It looks like professional ambulance tint from outside.

In the past IVe used contact spray and alfoil to very good effect.

I then got speccy and did it with alfoil on styrofoam sheets cut to size.

as a short term fix (ie just for summers or for the couple of years it takes for the tacker to work out shading his eyes) its worth putting up with the tinfoil anti government brainwave control jokes.

Painting them doesn't sound too bad. They serve no real purpose anyway. Other than to identify it as a Land Rover.

I don't think you'd get the alfoil to stay there without looking really crap too easily due to the curves. However I might cut out some tin foil onto some foam backing to cover the cargo area windows. Would be good to keep the heat away from the fridge and you can't see out of them anyway when all packed up and travelling.

I went to work today and discovered some scrap roofing sisalation so I have used that. Pulled the alpine window trims out and taped it to the back of the trim. I haven't refitted them yet.

So it is like the alfoil idea but won't rip whenever it is bumped.

Black spray can will do the job. Did ours a few months back before installing speakers in the alpine windows.

I've been thinking about having mine pulled out and sheet metal put in their place then sprayed to match or painted black. I'm sick of dealing with the rust. Constantly treating it with kill rust and already have taken it to a panel shop to have the windows removed, rust removed, resprayed and windows put back in.

Yep im looking at doing the same to my D1 as there is a bit of cancer starting on the drivers side window and id rather not have the alpine windows at all and am thinking of painting the 2 side windows and dark tinting the rear ..

Just spray them with that stuff they use to darken tail-light lenses, can get it at spare parts and performance parts stores, can go dark or light as you want, depends on the number of coats, Regards Frank.
