Thread: Fitting a fire extinguisher

Guessing it's a small one (around 1 kg?)

In a previous car, I mounted one to the front of the drivers seat supports, under where your knees are.

Didn't get in the way at all, could easily be reached and didn't look out of place.

Only draw back was some sort of authority type (RTA, coppers maybe) could take exception to it as if it came away, could end up under your feet around the pedals. I had a small length of light gauge webbing and a clamp (got it from a bush walking shop) around the whole lot as an extra to hold it in place, just in case the over center clamp thingy undid.

In front of the passenger seat on the floor is a prettty common place to put them too. Just gotta make sure you're not drilling though anything important when you make the holes.

I'd shy away from mounting anything that heavy with cable ties. Even if it was on the cargo side of the barrier (it'd be a pain to get to), it'd be a decent projectile if the worst happened.

Kinda like the dope we saw on the freeway today with the BBQ bottle ocky strapped to roofrack of his 80 Series

Hi everyone,

I have put my extinguisher along the side of the centre console, it has enough room to allow the passenger to stretch their feet out without banging into it.



Fastening was done with 2 x M5x30mm self drilling screws they are long enough to pass through the carpet and foam insulation underneath and then through the body, they stick out about 10mm into the area along side the gearbox and are well clear of the gearbox.

I've put a plate in behind the plastic trim so I don't lose the seatbox ...
there's also one mounted on the passengers side in my D1, easy to grab as you bail out.

yep, they both get rotated in the bracket before every trip so the powder doesn't pack down.

In front of the passenger seat. I made an adapter plate, so I didn't even have to drill holes. I'll post a pic one day (maybe).

Mine is well... in a terrible place i simply have a small one under my drivers seat loose it hardly moves around and i do shake it every time i check my fluids (regularly) but its been fine so far
