    Exclamation 93Tdi vs 96V8

    Hi all,

I'm new to this forum and am also new to the world of Land Rovers.

I have only just sold my 98 GU Patrol and want to buy a Landy.

    I'm looking at a couple at the moment and they are;

1993 Tdi 2 door and the other is a 1996 V8 Manual Duel Fuel.

Can someone give me a little run down on the pro's and con's for either?

Please excuse my ignorance when it comes to Land Rovers.

    welcome to AULRO,

the 1993 2-door Disco would very likely be a 200tdi unless it's had a 300tdi conversion , they are a great engine but parts may be harder to source , the V8 Dual Fuel would be a great choice for getting around town vehicle but range may be an issue if you're planning on touring with it.

    Totally agree with above.
Find a 97 300 tdi and get better interior and great combination of tranny etc.

V8 good also but for outback travel the gas is a bit suss and V8 is very thirsty 19-25L/100.

    I was told the 93tdi is a 2.5L

Whats the economy like for the V8's on gas?

The car wont be used for touring, mainly around town and weekend hunting trips.

There are 2 TDi L/R engines namely the 200TDi and the 300TDi, they are both 2.5L, the 300TDi is a more refined version of the 2 and was released in late 93/early94 (someone will correct me if incorrect), Regards Frank.

Welcome to the forum, good to see you followed my advice in joining. Welcome to the dark side after driving the opposition.

Hang out for a good 97 TDi to come up. The V8's are good, but the deisels so much better in the bush for general work. They come up now and then for a decent price. The fuel economy of the things will pay it off.

If you need a hand to look at something down Melb way let me know, you know how to get hold of me.

Sure did take your advise mate and really appreciate it too.

I'm having a look at a 96 V8 duel fuel rig today which belongs to a mates grandfather, 1 owner, 215 odd km's, manual, new tyres-cluch-brakes, comes with RWC and is cheap as CHIPS!!

For what i need it for it'll be alright, especially with gas at <50c

Nothing wrong with the V8's mate. Thirsty they are but on gas cheap driving just no range.
