Hi Greg, I have been down the same road myself. There where a couple at very good prices on Trademe. If I recall correctly the answer was no. But I am willing to be proved wrong as D2 stuf is cheaper here for some reason.

Hi all,
after checking through previous posts, I couldn't find an answer to the question - would a D2 bull bar fit a D1?
I presume the chassis mounts are similar (only because a D2 is based mainly on the D1...)
Does anyone have an answer?
cheers
Greg

Actually i'm pretty sure a D2 bar will fit a D1, this was asked a while ago so a search should bring up some info.
MY08 TDV6 SE D3- permagrin ooh yeah
2004 Jayco Freedom tin tent
1998 Triumph Daytona T595
1974 VW Kombi bus
1958 Holden FC special sedan
The answer is - you can make it fit - if you cut, grind, weld, re-cut and re-weld.
So on reflection the answer is no
Most of us D1 owners have asked the same question as the D2 bars are cheaper. The answer being no is one of the reasons the D1 bars hold their value.
hmm, someone should take some D1 bars to NZ from Aus and bring back some D2 bars, cos the D1 bars are cheap and D2 expensive in aus, and looks like the other way round in NZ
thanks guys,
it looks like the correct answer is - no if I am wanting a straight bolt on fit.And the other answer is - yes if i want to weld on new mounting brackets.
Finally found a post - titled "brush bars" while i was looking for "bull bars" where a member welded new mounting brackets to fit the D2 bar onto his D1. Very nice job it was too.
There were also a few comments about the lack of strenght of the standard factory bars - they are not designed for serious knocks while off roading and bend easily, or the end wrap arounds fall off after hours on bumpy roads. A bit discouraging really as aftermarket bars in NZ are quite heavily priced - $1300 for a couple advertised on trademe is too steep for me.
cheers
Greg
Pretty sure id can be done with an ARB bar with just a fair bit of fiddling, not sure if the cutting and welding is needed... there's a guy in our club that has done it he's a member on here but i'm not sure what his forum name is... i'll try and find out for you and get back to you.
