I'm not sure if the Welsh make welch plugs.![]()
hey there i have a 1992 3.5 v8 disco 1 auto , just noticed that 2 of the passanger side welsh plugs are seeping from the core of the plug , not too bad just yet but will need attention soon , the question i have is this , the plugs in question are the front most and middle plug on the passanger side , one of wich would be fine to get to without the extractors in the way but the fron one would require removel of the engine mount and mounting bracket onto the block wich is easy enough however i am just wondering peoples sucess of doing this in the car or weather you removed the engine.. (am a trade qualified mechanic) it does look possible just like a bit of a bugger of ajob , however any feedback is greatly appreciated. =] cheers

never been one for spelling , no wonder why when i put my spare parts orders in i get some funny items back lol.. after having another look at it i think i might just buy a few more than i need and try and hit this one in a tight location in square as i can and hope for the best
Can be done in car but its painful (less painful than removing the engine tho!)
Don't be afraid to put a light smear of loctitte hydraulic or thread sealant around the new plug before you install it as getting the bores for the welch plugs cleaned properly is near impossible with the engine in the car

If 2 are leaking, then I'd be doing them all.
Remove the exhaust & do them properly if that's what's needed. The last thing you want is for one to pop out.

yes well 2 are leaking , i was thinking i should pull the engine and do the lot properly however being a mechanic then id look at the cam and chain and probably end up doing everything wile it was out being a 2800 dollar car id doubt id want to spend anything much on it haha , Lucus i usualy use stag on them but much of a muchness depends on what you have round at the time. and Scouse yes i will be removing the exhaust and engine mount so i can try to drive them in square as i definately dont want one popping out as thats a good way to ruin a daytrip or holiday, my question was really is the first plug near the kinda cyl 2/4 area under the engine mount do able as the chassis mount sticks up fairly close to the block not allowing much of a swing with anything to pop the plug in i guess as i thought buy a few more than needed and hope for the best
I just got the same welsh plugs done in my disco. Either side behind the engine mounts and the one to the rear of the engine mount on the passenger side. I didnt bother doing them myself as it would have been a bitch doing from underneath without a hoist. My mechanic did it and it was much easier on a hoist. Dont need to remove engine.
yeah cheers thats what i was hoping for , ill take it to work and bang it up on the hoist one saturday soon.
