Talking to a Land Cruiser guy the other day and he said exactly this.

Don't worry about the police booking you and you can get a roadworthy however, the insurance peeps are right onto this in insurance claims. He claimed Shannons told him they would insure his truck with 35's on it but wouldn't pay any accident claims.

15mm is the limit according to him and them (much to his disgust).

    Go fish!

Exactly, I agree with above. If the tyre size cause the crash then you may have trouble.

End of the day if an insurance company wanted to they could check most cars and I'm sure they could come up with a road worthy issue.... land rovers leak oil... isn't that a road worthy issue. Meaning all landrovers that leak oil essentially could be denied an insurance claim....

I run 245/75/16 and if my insurance company denied me I'd happily take it up with the insurance onbudsman.

A question came up on outers the other day and has had me thinking. My D2 is engineered and legally registered in NSW. Hypothetically I go for a holiday interstate, in this state apparently the engineers certification is not worth the paper it is written on if I was to re rego it there. Without the engineers certificate in NSW my car cannot be legally registered. When I cross the border does my rego therefore my insurance become nil and void until I return to NSW?

My brother in-law works for one of Austrailia’s largest Car insurers. He works in a section that is officially there to investigate fraud, and bogus claims – however there is a large team (he is in it) within the fraud group that’s only existence is find ways to deny otherwise valid claims (Staff bonuses paid on number of claims denied), and I’m told that claims on 4WD vehicles are easy pickings for them, oversize tyres being the number reason they deny and force the client to court, where the client rarely wins. The information is also passed to the accident investigation people or coroner in the event of a fatality. Insurance companies are a vindictive little group… I don’t have any time for this family member but I’m not game to step out side the laws after hearing what his work days involve… My D2 has 245/70s...

If the diameter of the tyre is increased the brakes have to work harder and are less affective (simple leverage equation) this is why the law exists.
When I changed the wheel and tyre combo on my boat trailer from 175R13 to 185R14 the electric/hydraulic (disc) braking system could no longer lock the rear axle when turned up full - the controller had to be set significantly higher for normal braking.

I've been running 235/70/16 Cooper ST for 6 years now. I do about half my ks on the dirt and have a few good trips logged in that as well. They've been fine and I usually get at least 80k out of a set. They're the best compromise tyre I've tried and handle tyre-damaging terrain very well.

Why not Bridgestone 694s in LT 245/70/16 and legal.
I just got a set for my RRC.
They are pretty aggressive but are unbelievably quiet on the bitumen compared to my 10 year old BFG AT KOs, and have good turn in etc.
    I am rapt.
They are only $249 on special at the moment ( or last week anyway)
    Regards Philip A
