If it is level with the Internal Indicator Post (look through filler hole) then that should be sufficient. If more than that, then it would probably overfill when hot.

yea the level is right, but i only just noticed that it has overflowed would this indicate that it overheated

    Coolant

I notice that coolants are now coloured red and green. My mates Tojo Corolla's handbook says to use red coolant. My D1 handbook just says 50/50 and mine came with green and have always used green. Is there a difference in properties between colours?

Yep sure is a difference, don't mix the two. The green is the glycol coolant (uses neutralised inorganic acids)and the red is the newer OAT coolant(Organic Acid Technology).

may also be a buggerd cap, when they die they stop sealing when at temp and will let the water out of the cap a new cap is about $10

A not properly tightened cap will cause coolant loss when hot.
Worse though is the old Black tanks that start to leak at the seams and then go pop when you least want it to.
