    Body Lift, Whats it worth

Hey guys, I have just got a 94 Disco and besides a 2 inch suspension lift and a bull bar its a blank canvas.
My dilema is whether to stay legal and fit small simex tyres, or get a body lift and fit larger tyres for greater ground clearance.
This car is only to be used in the bush for boys weekends and not a daily driver.
Q1 How hard is it to fit a 2 inch body lift and do I have to make many modifications to suit it.

Q2 Whats a body lift kit worth and does anyone know somewhere good in South East Melbourne who could do it for me. (Im good with electrics not so good on the spanners)

Q3 I see so many 4WD on the road with huge lifts and large tyres, are these all unroad worthy, I would be unlikley to do more than 5k a year in this car. Are there any horror stories where insurers are not paying out on these cars when a claim is made. Does it make a difference if I only insure for Third party, Fire and Theft.

    All feed back greatly appreciated.

    Thanks
    Karl

dunno what a lift kit costs but not too hard to fit you can do it DIY

    but..........
it all depends on what size tyres your wanting to fit.
I have a RRC no body or spring lift and run 31" tyres.

    If you have a 2"spring lift i guess you'd get 33"+

You need to remember that with a 2"spring lift you are already maxed out, with a 2" body lift then bigger tyres you wil be about 4"+ over size

As for insurance they are slippery buggers and will try anything if its going to cost them a lot but i think if it didnt contribute to the accident it shouldn't bother the insurance.

Anything over about 30.5" (dont know what the metric tire size is) will require the "camel chop". do a search and buy a grinder.

99% of the time a suspension lift will not solve this problem, but a body lift might. The actual body lift is very simple, but getting the bumpers to match up afterwards can be a headache.

I would recommend full disclosure to the insurance mob about what mods you have done and to keep it legal, because if you rear end some BMW or lexus, the insurance company will do whatever it takes to drop you in the deep end.

    Welcome to the disco clan

Well I tried, but I found a too good to refuse disco for a 3rd of the cost of a decent Defender. I was like a kid in a toy store when i put a deposit down on it - A very expensive toy store

G'Day Karl, and welcome,, another Disco,,, cool,,

Only 5k a year??? We'll see if we can adjust that a little,,,

I've got a 2" spring lift, although the rears supposed to sit higher (3") because their heavy duty to account for load,, but have had to do some guard cutting because I made the mistake of buying 25mm offset rims, but I'm only running MTZ's 31's. I'm at present thinking of putting in a 1" body lift only, just to give me that little bit of extra confidence that nothing will hit.
For me, my blocks are free, but I'm lazy , and need someone to do the job. I'm not sure what the hight is, but when you start getting over 2" you need to start doing other stuff too,, brake lines etc..

With the original 2" lift and standard tyres, I had no issues at all.

I will try to do more than 5K a year, the only problem is the wife doesnt like camping at all, so every time I go for a boys weekend I have to take her away for a break to compensate her, therefore effectivly halving my opportunities to go camping. However Im training my 2 young sons and they love camping but hate 4wding, Once I regularly take them away for the weekend I wil be able to go twice a month.

Im loving my new Disco, its great as a second family car but ultimatley its a weekend toy so I dont risk my work truck.

    Thanks

I have 2" susp lift and 30mm body lift running 32x9.5 simex. I have not had to worry about rubbing under compression of the springs. I plan to run 33" tyres in the future and will have to get my rims flipped and put flares on. Cheers Brett
