    horn has stopped working!

help! my horn has stopped working (1995 D1 tdi), the fuse is intact, there is power at the relay (i tested it - and the horn works from there) but for some reason the horn doesnt work when i depress the button on the steering wheel), infact even if i short out the wires inside the steering wheel for the horn, it doesnt trigger the horn, its doing my head in
    help!

    cheers eddie~!

I had the same issues with my D1 (non airbag wheel)... the annoying thing was that when I took it to get looked at it would start working again!! (happened twice)

Finally got it nailed... corroding connection underneath main push-contact assembly in the steering wheel... can't describe it any better than that because an autosparkie fixed it for me.

ok, well mine has the air bag steering wheel, but even when i remove the airbag, and short out the wires to the horn, i wont even hear a clicking sound at the relay, i tested the steering wheel wires with my test lamp and it didnt show any power..

i don't know about your problem, but to add some confusion to this thread,
my recently acquired d1 tdi has a single horn operating from the airbag steering wheel, but it has a set of air horns under the bonnet, and also the original dual horns behind the grille, seems that it may have been too hard at one of the annual nsw roadworthys to fix, so just bolt another inone day i'll get to the bottom of the mystery.

yes inc, i bought a tdi.

I had this problem at the same time as my Cruise Control ceased working. There is a Rotary Coupler under the wheel that does both functions & it was this that was stuffed.

The Auto Elec hooked up a temporary horn circuit & button until my order arrived from the UK.
