For access .... I think you just cut a hole in the floor above the tank at the rear, to gain access

Hey there i have a 92' 3.5 v8i disco wanting to do the fuel pump just as a precautionary measure as its quite noisy and id rather just not have it fail , do these things have a acess port under the carpet somewhere or do you have to drop the tank.. also i heard somewhere a vn pump will fit it , is this true , if so does anyone have any info on it.. i heard you have to do slight mods to make it fit.. this is fine as im a trades qual mechanic.. however i ask the question about the plate in the back as i have a big gas tank in the back and im assuming its going to have one under that as much as id rather wish it was elsewhere

Its a VR pump , generic or Bosch from Repco at $105. Only mod is to change the small terminal to large. I needed to use the old filter sock as the new one is short one end and long the other while the Land Rover one is equal, but probably could have forced the sock into the sump.

very much appreciated.. lets just hope the hole is towards the rear of the back on up behind the seats..
As perviously said the inspection plate is right in the middle of the back. Once you remove the plate you need a special tool to unscrew the large ring holding the pump in. I dropped my tank out to give it a good clean and used a G clamp to grip the sides of the ring to unscrew it. You still will need to remove the inspection plate to drop the tank as you need to remove the pipes from the top first.
Cheers, David.
My special tool is a large screwdriver and a hammer, and a GENTLE tap or two.
Regards Philip A
cheers , should be able to get to it with the gas tank there i hope. as for the special tool we have heaps of them, at work in various forms for removing sender rings , however if i forget to bring one home with me ill just do the old screwdriver trick :P thanks everyone for the input
