Sounds definately like your car is toast by now.

not yet and if it is i certainly dont have the funs to rebuild it,

Its a tad hard to read some of your posts, not sure if its just me but some words are just wrong and can give wrong meaning. Difficult to understand thats all.
You say you do all your own maintenance but the most basic and possibly most important to any vehicle has been overlooked.
The cooling system function is paramount not just in these vehicles but all.
Doing 110-120km/h on a hot day or when you know its potentially overheating is another thing I can't understand.

i was between sydney and albury and i wasn't in any hurry to have it towed away i dont have the funds for that nor for a mechanic to look at it , mate im now out of funds for the car

before sydney it was over heating,

i replace thermostat, thermal fans, and the vicuse is working fine
i flushed the rad 2x times after all this

she was running a dream again and on a 38degree day with air con going was no problem at all

the drive up was good no toroubles

wasn't untill we went 4x4 that she really over heated so hot i couldnt leave me hand on the guards for too long untill it cooled

Stop comparing the 2 vehicles, one you had for a while and had time to sort its issues out the other you have thus far got No idea about and understandably are trying, full marks there but do it right.

My Disco, actually all 9 of my last Landies all have and still do out-perform most Patrols and Toyotas. Thats what Landies are built for and known for.

9 landies?? you went through 9 landie or sold them ?
If you were handed a Sniper Rifle, do you think you could land a shot at 2 miles?
Everything takes time and getting accustomed to, same with a new car.

So do us all a favour and qualify your comments and be reasonable.

look my other half is screaming for me to sell it and recover as much as i can to cover the $8000 loan i have on it
it just been so far one of these car that has done nothing but cost$$

i am sorry if you guys take offense to me compairing my old GQ to the disco, but the fact of the matter is in this particular case with the current disco that sit in my driveway is unreliable
the GQ never once failed me brock down or had as many problems as the land rover has

im in a position that im just trying to fix the landy without spending$$$$$ as you all know you need a loan to buy any part for the disco they are just so expensive because everything come from england

I dont spend a lot for my parts because I do my home work and source from different countries depending on what I need.....parts from the UK are not expensive in comparison and the pound is down and the dollar is up its not rocket science
Our Land Rover does not leak oil! it just marks its territory.......

On the highway, the forward motion of the vehicle provides air flow through the radiator.

Off road the speed is slower and the coolant temp will go up. As I said before, the radiator size is marginal for our conditions (it's a pommie thing).

So your viscous fan has to be good and the radiator core has to be clean (flushing won't help with cross flow radiators if the tubes are blocked - the tanks have to come off and the tubes rodded out.

I know you said the viscous fan is good, but it is surprising how often this turns out to be the problem even though it was believed they were good.

There are 2 (or is it 3 I can't remember - too long since I have had a V8) temp switches, one of these operates at a higher temp and switches on the thermo fans in front of the air con condenser - also de-energises the air con compressor clutch.

I have had a number of Land Rovers over many, many years, and my problems have been rare - excluding carnage from driving incidents, only minor things I could count on one hand and not unexpected due to normal wear and tear. A fault in a non-standard, early electronic ignition module many years ago and a water pump failure were the only times they have stopped on me.

Matthew .... The above are ALL THE SIGNS of a blocked radiator .... Just get it rodded

    Ahhhhh... The pressure point .....

I take no offence to your comparisons ...... As you have said, You gave it a go, but your just not enjoying your ride

YES ... The costs of these parts can be exy .... but they are the same price as the other brands ..... and with the right Q's asked, in the right places .... They can be as cheap as chips

They way I see your ride ... is you copped a "One Off" housing ... A annual major cooling system service .... and a dose of contaminated fuel (nothing to do with the car)

A strange thing I see folks do tho, is they finally sort out all the dramas ... then sell it on to the next person, who gets the benefit of a sorted ride

BTW ... I'm not trying to convince you that it's a good car, Thats up to you

That big white fan sitting behind that radiator ... hanging off the water pump, called the viscous fan .... This roars when you first start the car in the morning????

When your car got hot / warm .... This viscous fan .... was roaring all the time till the temp cooled down??

    It does work?? .... correct???

    matthewk,

The questions mike 90 RR is asking would make me hold off on the radiator if you are short of money, it will not do any harm to get it serviced but if your viscous fan is not working you will continue to have trouble at low speed.
