right i seem to have got rid of problem, basically i checked all connections on plugs and dizzy, made sure no vacuum lines were split, i cleaned the little brass orifice in plastic T piece between rockers and plenum, cleaned little plunger unit at back of plenum, it now seems to be pulling like a warrior again

    Thanks RoverV8 for you advice

Do you know where this vac valve is?

I believe they run a kickdown cable rather than a vacuum modulator.

Good, the vac advance unit is important, so at least you got it fixed!

well so much for thinking my disco was back to normal, half way to work this evening and the ugly sluggishness and miss was back under load, but this time much worse, i could barely get up up any hill, and when i gave it throttle it coughed and spluttered, now at idle when giving it gas it misses like crazy at about 2700 to 3000 revs.
As posted by roverv8, how much vacuum should you get when holding finger over plenum when reving by hand, seems to be very little if you ask me.

As you said earlier, your plugs, leads, rotor are'nt that old

It could be the ignition amp playing up.
