Definately time to do pump tweak, intercooler upgrade and silicone hoses.
I found that was a big help with torque and towing.
    I still like another 20 KW's though.

I would also change all water hoses and clamps etc.

Thanks everyone, definately some good advise. I also believe there are different towbars for the d1s, I think mine is a heavy duty pack but there is no Landrover dealers in Wagga. Does anyone have any pictures?

There are different towbars, depending on who makes them, Land Rover, ARB etc.

They all should have a plate or stamping on them with the max tow weight, and maybe the max ball weight as well (but I don't think they all have this).

Most towbars fitted to a D1 are 3500kg, if anything less was fitted it would be a bit odd.

I believe it can be inspected to give an increase to 4000kg, with appropriate brake setup etc.

Heavy weights also require trailer brakes, can't remember what the propsed cut off weight is though.

The D1's are rated to pull 4000kg. My tow bar is a hayman reese rated to pull 4000kg but the limitation is the ball weight is only 120kg. Seems a bit pointless really. I've been told that ball weight should be 10% of the overall trailer weight.
I seem to remember at a recent caravan and camping show, I mentioned this to a manufacturer and indicated that a number of manufacturer's had re rated their tow bars. I haven't followed up this to confirm it, but I hope they have.
