Gi day Frank, Thanks , .... I am planing to get a panel beater to do the repair work after I strip out the roof lining.

A porta power will push the frame (edge of the roof) up, but you will find that the roof metal has been stretched and just popping the dent back up will not work, the metal along the dent will have to be shrunk to get back the proper shape, a panel beater could advise you, Regards Frank.

Just thought I'd check a few things out.
LR have a new roof in stock with a list price of $290. It has holes for roof rails though but it may be an option if the repair costs start getting too high.
Part# MWC4246
Other roof panels are near the $1000 mark.
Any chance of some photos ?
Just to get an idea of the extent of the damage.
Scott
G'day
Being a panel beater myself when there is a massive long dent in the roof its not worth repairing it as the turret is usual thin and it distorts very easy. You will have to get a new turret put on and its not as hard than it looks.
Basicaly you would have to strip out the inside, remove front wind screen and everything else thats attached to the inside of the turret. Then you would use a spot weld drill and drill out all the spot welds from around the turret, once done use hammer and chisel to seperate the turret from the body and its done. Put new turret on, make sure it all gaps up properly can even add metal bond for extra strength then spot weld back on.
there are little bits here and there i did not mention but thought id just put up the main points as to how its done.
Gi Day, .... Sorry for the delay in reply, . I have been off line. I'll keep your offer in mind, but at this stage, I only need a windscreen. I'm taking the roof liner out this morning so I can access the true damage.
What colour & year is your Disco & where is it located?
Baz
Giday Simo. The dent isn't major, I'll post some pic's when I get the liner out.
Where about do you live, .... what would you recon the cost of turret replacement would cost? (non insurance job)
Thanks for taking time to offer good advice.
Baz
Giday again Scott, sorry for the late reply, .. been off line. I plan on getting the liner out today, then I'll post pic's. If the turret is beyond repair, I would be interested in your roof. Can you fir the new turret if required?
Thanks again .... Baz
G'day Baz
Not a prob mate
non insurance jobs can be cheap to fix depending on if you can find a either new or second hand turret at a right price and if ya got the tools to do the job. i myself would prob charge around the $400 - $550 mark to do a back yarder job but thats only cause i'm very picky in my work, dont handle for second best just the way i do things lol.
Other thing you would have to look at is when done you'll have to get it painted and thats where my brother comes in as he is a painter lol smash repair runs in the family lol. I'm in Melbourne on the outer western subs. In the end it will be alot easier to go through insurance as you'll get everything done at once BUT you'll be looking at around the 1 week mark without your rig depending on the panel shop and you'll have to pay the excess which is around the $500 -$550 mark depending on the company. Where if you found a beater to do a back yarder you'll prob get it within 1 - 2 days turret done then another couple of days for paint. Thats how long i would have it for anyways lol.
