Mmm, I was thinking about doing this, but getting it done in vinyl instead of painting. Any comments on that as an idea as such?

If done in vinyl it will fade, and eventually peel if often in the sun.

    Costs no more to paint...

And, at end of life (eg. you sell the vehicle) if you remove the sticker the bonnet will still look wrong as the outer edge will be faded quite a lot compared to the centre...

    I'd say paint it!!!

Just on the comment regarding using Vinyl... i personally would only do it that way. The bonnet on mine has been done using vinyl. This was done by the previous owner, and by adding the years i have owned the car and the years he said it had been on it when i bought it the Decal has been on there for 10 years this year, and is showing NO signs of pealing, bubbling or fading.

(this is a terrible pic but shows it non the less)

very shiny I guess though thaking that off after 10 years is not such an issue on a white car

My bonnet has been matt black for the past three years...done with self adhesive matt black PVC from the sign makers shops.
I sent a template over to Justin on here a few years ago so you guys could share it and make your own.
PVC won't fade like PE or OPP and has the best UV protection factor of them all.
If you take your time and apply it correctly you won't get bubbles either.

Have any of you stumbled on a CAD drawing of the template? It would be great to have something we could just send to the local sign makers for CNC cutting.

I have infact made one of these, let me search the old computer (if it still works) and i will post it up so everyone can use it... but no promises as the old computer has been sitting in the shed for a few years now...Also i would need to search through endless files.

This may be a stupid question but why would you paint it flat black on a already dark color like the british green??? i can understand on a white rig but is it meant to stop glare coming off the bonnet??
