    Am I asking to much

I went for a trip to show my parents marble bar yesterday. the weather was about 45deg and had the air con on.

Ive got a auto Diesel disco which the auto cooler has been upgraded and is sitting in front of the radiator and electric fan.

Now I was driving along at 110k and the tempreture guage slowley started to creep up. if i stoped it almost instantly cooled back down. or if i turned off the air con it cooled back down.

Just wondering if im asking to much for the aircon to be on when it is that hot?

If i put another thurmo fan in front of the auto cooler would this help or make it worse.

Do you think my radiator needs a clean out or upgrade?

or is my auto geting to hot?

    Hey mate,
Maybe your auto cooler is obstructing the air flow through your radiator slightly and the only time you notice it affect your temp is on the really hot days? So maybe your right and it does need a good flush out. Or reposition the auto cooler...
Im not sure but i doubt it would show up on your temp guage if your auto was running hot..

Hi, I think with the age the Disco 1 are getting it's most likely the radiator is getting blocked up and needs a good clean out. I had the same problem with my V8 and got to a stage that it would over heat ever time I went out on hot days. Yesterday I took the radiator to a radiator placed and got it rodded and clean. I flushed the engine and pipes and put new coolant in. I had it idling in the drive for about 40 minutes in 35 oC now and looking good, Temp sits below half now. The radiator guy said it was very blocked. Best $80 i've spent on her. Reading other post a lot of other have similar problems.
    Cheers David.

    I agree with Landover

Traveling at 100-110kph has plenty of airflow

If it's heating up traveling on a HWY, it's most likely that the radiator needs to be rodded.

at 100km hour you dont need a engine fan i didnt have one in my old ford

but in my desiel auto disco with the aircon dont even see 1/2 (very close)
    no matter what the tempriture

when was the last time the cooling system was overhalled?

Off subject here but you shouldnt trust the standard gauge as it takes forever to move. Look at it this way i got a engine watch dog and put it in. went for a drive at 110k's on the western hwy towards ballarat going up hill for about 3-4k's. my watch dog picked up a temp of 107 degrees now from what i was told its fine there for just a few minutes as long it goes down again. thing is my standard gauge did not even move one bit so i'm guessing with the weather, air con on and traveling reckon you where running maybe hotter temps for your gauge to moves. So get the rad rodded, check out the clearance you have in the front of the cooler and get yourself a better aftermarket gauge.

    Thanks guys,

I have flushed it out myself about 3 months ago and it was fairly bad then. Think is time to get it rodded and getting another thurmo fan for the auto cooler.

Just had a thaught i could move the auto cooler over the intercooler side? it would help with the water temp but wont help the performance much?

When our Disco was our tourer we had trouble overheating...we put in new thermo fans and a range rover oil cooler as they are bigger than the disco and had the radiator serviced and never had a problem since except when ho har was towing the car trailer with RED 130 on board the other day soon as he turned the air off the disco cooled down.....drive a defender as the aircon isn't that great so you drive everywhere with all the windows down no matter what temp

I recently had the same problem as yours. Took it to Rad place they cleaned and rodded it,now my fans don't run on for 10 mins after shut down.
It was 50 % blocked, Rad place told me the Rads in LR usually get a hot spot in the top passenger side area.
For under $100 it's good to get it done anyway
