Should I still get an RACV check if a Disco1 is being supplied with current RWC?

The guy I want to buy this Disco off is supplying it with a current RWC from Ultra-Tune. I would think that since the mechanic is liable for any dodgy'ness they would want to cover anything pretty well in case they get pulled up on it.

Would you guys still suggest getting an RACV check done or should I be able to rely on a current RWC?

Get the RACV check OR something similar to it by an independent LandRover workshop.

I recently had a roadworthy performed on a car (presumably by a specialist but that's another story). After I picked it up, on the drive home it vapour locked on me five times and the speedo cable broke within 15 kilometres. The following day it was registered and the following weekend the rear left wheel caught fire. The following weekend the grommets between the brake fluid reservoir and brake master cylinder were so perished they leaked the brake fluid as fast as I could fill. After christmas, the rear brake seals failed piddling brake fluid all over the wheels. The fuel gauge does not work, the ignition switch is faulty, either the wheel bearings or ball joints on at least one of the front wheels is sloppy and the air suspension leaks.

    Case in point

A roadworthy is bureaucratic paperwork for the purposes of registering a car.
A detailed vehicle inspection from the RACV or a competent mechanic is to indicate to you the apparent condition of the vehicle.

    regards
    Mick

note: the vehicle in the example is not a landrover, I am very happy with it and I do expect more problems to surface. I got a good rare one that needs a bit of TLC.

Check for service history which to me is pretty much a must and get it checked by nothing less than the best Landy mechanic you can afford.
    A poor person pays twice.
Do homework now and you can have a long reliable relationship with your disco.

Then again what sort of problem if pointed out to you would stop the deal from going through? So what if the suspension rubbers or whatever needs doing. The odometer and service history should give you a very good indication of what to expect. If you don't know much about the vehicle then pay for the check.

A RWC will only say the vehicle is in condition to drive on the road at time of testing. That safety features like lights, brakes, seat belts horn, windscreen etc etc is ok.
It will not guarantee the vehicle to be in good mechanical condition, like the motor won't cack itself soon, or the transmission isn't going to blow up etc etc.
A good mechanical inspection should tell all is either good or not in the future reliabilty stakes.
