could it be a slipping belt
Hay all this is my first post so ill get straight to the point
Because i dont really know all that much about 4x4's i thought i would ask here it seems like a nice place to be compared to other forums
I have a 93 Discovery V8 petrol auto
When i jump on the accelerator pedal hard it has a loud screech that comes form underneath
Now my first thoughts would be the trans is starting to go bad but it shifts really good and doesn't leak or slip gears when its cold
Second thought was the torque converter i have had a torque convertor problem in other cars i have owned with really strange symptoms
My falcon just felt like it had the hand brake on and that was the converter
And my old Torana many years ago just wouldn't move at all just reved
So what would be the first thing i should check and how would i check it
I prefer to do almost everything myself but there are a few things i will leave to the pro's
rebuilding brakes internal electric fuel pumps so if its not a major brain thing i should be right
Thanks in advance
could it be a slipping belt
Our Land Rover does not leak oil! it just marks its territory.......
I cant think of anything in the trans that would make that noise without other sublte and not so sublte sympotms.
Crank the aircon to flat out and give it a bootfull then repeat with the aircon off if that changes it then its the belt. Work out a way to rub the drive side of the belt with candle wax or spray in some belt grip and that will change it as well if its the belt only.
Pull the belt off and check all the pulleys and Idlers for condition if you isolate it to the belt.

If you think you're in front on the deal, pay it forwards.
To steve 35 you purchased the disco of me. You will find that the screech is probably the pwr steering belt and the altenater belt that was removed to replace the water pump. If you retension the belts it should stop.![]()
