    Kaymar Rear Bar

    Hi Guys,

Anyone have one of these attached to their disco?

    http://www.kaymar.com.au/pdf/Discovery%201.pdf

Anyone using it to carry dual spares?

Opinions sought as to how it is going as I'm thinking "maybe" as opposed to making my own?

Any other suggestions as too alternate brands available would be appreciated also?

    Cheers

    Chris.

Had one on my disco. Very heavy and you will need a significant rear spring upgrade.
I bought just the bar, and then made the wheel & jerry can holder. Not too hard. The spigots are holden stub axles so hubs are easy to get.

This thread was from last month: http://www.aulro.com/afvb/discovery-...l-carrier.html

Not a whole lot of useful info, but the links still work to pics of the dual wheel carrier Kaymar bar on carsales.

Here's a couple of the pics (it's not mine):

I htink they look great but I reckon I would get annoyed having to open two wheels to get into the back

    Hi Guys,

Thanks for that gents, did do a search here for Discovery Rear Bar but didn't get any hits, more my computer skills than anything I suspect.

Still thinking about the best way to go about it, already have heavy duty suspension that rides pretty rough with no load on (rides beautifully with tradesman trailer attached aproxx 40ish kilos down weight) so I'm thinking a bit more on the rear isn't going to hurt too much (will assess when I get it done though).

    Thanks again

    Chris

Unless they have started making them again, Kaymar stopped production of the D1 rear bar due to low sales volume. I'm sure they'd still have the old jigs floating around but not sure if you would be able to persuade them to make one. Rod is not a fan of Land Rovers so the less he has to do with them the better, in his opinion. I used to work for Kaymar (going back a few years now) and they had a couple of D1 bars floating around upstairs that had been returned because apparently they didn't fit. They have moved premises since then so may have turfed them. Might still be worth a go though. I should hopefully be making myself one in the coming months, when time and finances permit.
Edit: I just looked at the link and it does appear as though they are remaking them (sorry), but as suspected, they are a different design to the ones that they ceased making a few years back. I have worked for quite a few years in the 4wd accessories market as a welder, and I will still say that the Kaymar bars are the strongest of the bars that I have dealt with.

Hi chris, I'm in the middle of making one at the moment! Should've said something when you were around the other day, it was away at the sandblasters. Its back now if you want to take a squiz. I might even make you one but it's not cheap

That'd be about right! Didn't even think to ask! More worried about the ruddy squeaks!

Wasn't too serious yet (although I might be now), just getting an idea of whats out there, and how many children I'll have to sell into slave labour to afford it, or how many brownie points I'll have to accumulate to spend the time in the shed building one

I'll pop in tomorrow after dropping the nipper at school for a look, gotta be cheaper than the Kaymar version I'm sure?

    Thanks for that.

    Chris.
